Sunnybank Theatre Group – June/July 2012

Sunnybank Theatre Schedule

As our comedy “Same Time Next Year” draws to a close we’ve had such wonderful feedback with this production which has entertained many hundreds of our patrons with two extremely talented actors! A comment overheard in our Green Room during the interval, “I saw the film with Alan Alda years ago and this is better than the film”! That was praise indeed and our Director Dierdre Robinson and talented actors Bernadette Alizart and Paul Marshall were extremely happy to hear it!! It’s always wonderful to see so many people leave the theatre with smiles on their faces having enjoyed it so much! Many stayed behind to congratulate Bernadette and Paul after the show!

Our 2012 program is running hot this year as the curtain comes down on “Same Time Next Year” on the 9th June the next season opens on 29 June with our “Season of One Act Plays”. What a fabulous smorgasbord of entertainment this season offers. Come and enjoy three totally different One Act plays that offer drama and comedy all in the one entertaining night!

The Show starts with a great drama “The Band Wagon” full of love, lies and betrayal! Written by Anthony Booth, who is often mistaken for the actor Tony Booth, the play is set in a mining country cottage in England about a young boy trapped in a well. His estranged father comes back to the village and it looks like he will make it up with his wife. But his mother who had brought about the original split again manages to keep them apart.

Enjoy a drink in our fully licensed Green Room and after interval you’ll enjoy turning to a lighter note with two very different comedies! “There’s Always Spring” by Arthur Lovegrove tells the story of a young couple, Brenda and Alan who died in their bed! Was it a murder-suicide or an unfortunate accident? Their ghosts are watching over as prospective new tenants look through their flat! Jill and Ian are viewing the flat, will they be haunted or happy to live there?

And audiences will leave the theatre with smiles on their faces as we finish the evening with “Good Business Sense” by Emmett Loverde where we find yuppie Barth who has Good Business Sense, and tonight he’s making the boardroom presentation of his life: a proposal of marriage to the equally industrious Claudia. Everything is perfect — including the ring for which his assistants shopped everywhere. But she wants flowers and violins, not charts and graphs…………………….

With the season opening 29 June the Box Office has just opened for the “Season of One Act Plays” and runs for the usual three weekends with performances on Fridays at 8pm and Saturdays at 2pm and evening at 8pm. Treat yourself to an entertaining night at the theatre with three very different short plays! Call us now to book your seats or book online through our website www.stg.org.au It’s so easy dial (07) 3345 3964 and follow the prompts, Option 1 on your keypad for ticket sales.

That takes our 2012 season through to mid July, but wait there’s more!! We’ve got two very exciting shows to finish off the year! First we bring you the longest running play of all time, Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” which is having its 60th Anniversary in London’s West End where it is still running having opened there in November of 1952!! Auditions were held recently and the cast is set to start an intensive period of rehearsal to bring you this legendary mystery thriller! Put this one in your diaries now, the season starts on 31 August and the Box Office will be running hot from 10am on Saturday 4 August!!

Don’t forget after this legendary thriller we’ll be finishing the year with yet another favourite Musical, the Irving Berlin ever popular classic, “White Christmas”. There’s always plenty of information for you on our website www.stg.org.au or give us a call on (07) 3345 3964 and we look forward to your company in our comfortably air-conditioned theatre, 14 Mains Road (corner of Beenleigh Road) Sunnybank throughout 2012!
