Whites Hill Reserve is a public reserve located between Boundary Road and Pine Mountains Road in the suburb of Holland Park, Brisbane. The reserve encompasses 21ha of land and is home to multiple sporting clubs and field, a large natural reserve which is criss-crossed with walking trails and an old quarry.
The sporting clubs hosted at Whites Hill Reserve include
- Eastern Districts Junior Cricket Association, includes club house and four ovals. The ovals are elevated with great views to the South.
- Brisbane City Cobras, part of the Brisbane Touch Football Association.
- Holland Park Hawks, local soccer club who cater to all ages from 3 to seniors.
The large native reserve that encompasses the majority of the park and the trails are a popular destination for locals and visitors to the area and meander through the reserve’s mainly dry forest. The main trails through the park include
- Whites Hill Summit Circuit – This is a paved trail that leads off from Tallowood Track are climbs to small summit where a sheltered rest area is located, a plaque with the history of the hill and a clearing through the trees to vistas of Brisbane’s CBD. The track is approximately a 30 minute return walk from the playground at Whites Hill Recreational Reserve.
- Sankey’s Mountain Summit – This is a small trail leading off Brush Box Track up to an elevated viewing point looking North. The view is however impeded by trees.
- She-Oak Track – This is a dirt trail that runs past the Quarry. A smal track also leads off from She-Oak up to a plateau that overlooks the quarry and well worth the small climb.
- Other tracks through the park include Shirleyana Track that starts from Bendena Terrace, Ironbark Track that starts next to the dog off-leash area and connects to Mahogany Track that goes through to Pine Mountain Road. Various other un-marked tracks are located throughout the White Hills Reserve.
Other facilities and activities at Whites Hill Reserve include a very popular dog off-leash zone that has training equipment for the dogs including ramps and hoops. Sitting benches and picnic tables are also found in the dog off-leash area. A well equipped playground is situated at the Whites Hill Recreation Reserve along with barbeque facilities, covered picnic tables and public toilets. The playground has a wide variety of equipment which includes a flying fox, swings, see-saw, slides and more. A half-court basketball court and rebound wall are also located nearby.
If heading to the park by car there are multiple areas to park including a small car park across the road from the dog off-leash area and car parks in the Whites Hill Recreation Area off Boundary Road. Accessing the park via public transport the nearest bus stops being near the intersection of Newman Avenue and Boundary Road about 700 metres from the park on the Western side of the reserve and near the intersection of Gallipoli Road and Tirrabella Street about 100 metres from the park on the Eastern side of Whites Hill Reserve. Facilities At Whites Hill Reserve and Recreation Area
| A majority of the reserve is native forest and provides with predominately eucalyptus trees. | |
| There are public toilets located in the Whites Hill Recreation Reserve near the playground. They are found along the internal road leading off from Boundary Road. | |
| There is a shared pathway that runs along Boundary Road and beside the reserve for cycling, walking and jogging. There are also shared and pedestrian only sealed and un-sealed tracks through the park. | |
| There is one well equipped playground in Whites Hill Recreational Reserve. The playground includes a flying fox, play hut, swings and more. The elevated position of the playground area provides opportunities for cool breezes throughout the day. | |
| There are large covered picnic table areas with barbeques facilities located near the playground area. | |
| There are multiple car park options including a small car park opposite the dog off-leash area and multiple car parks located along the internal road in the Whites Hill Recreational Reserve. | |
