Donovan and Taka earn selection to 2025 Australian Under-18 Rugby Squad

After a season in which Fullback Angus Tagicakibau won many fans through his dominating performances, the BBC First XV produced several players who earned selections to this year’s Australian U18 and Schoolboys squads – such as Finn Mackay, hooker Isaac Rauluni, prop Levi Slater and centre Taione Taka.

These national selections highlight the College’s rich talent pool, achieved over years of development within a program which emphasizes discipline and consistency. Their selection is testament to both hard work by team members as well as support from wider society.

Brisbane Boys’ College boys are currently preparing to travel to Canberra for international fixtures that will give them exposure to elite coaching and competition, and help prepare them for future success on an international stage. It marks another impressive sporting milestone at Brisbane Boys’ College whose alumni have represented Australia internationally in multiple sports and disciplines; rugby plays an essential part of expanding its reputation for academic and athletic excellence at this institution.

Years of preparation lead to national success

College, widely-renowned for its cultural and sporting ambition, boasts an enviable record of success across various competitive arenas. Their famed ‘Green-White-Black’ battle cry has seen BBC capture numerous GPS Premierships in Tennis, Basketball and Volleyball as well as championship titles in Cross Country Robotics and Track and Field competitions – leaving just Rugby Premiership yet to come their way – which led them into 2019 as excitement increased around their chance at overall glory.

The tour also included top-tier coaching clinics at Natal Sharks Rugby Academy and an insightful visit to the Apartheid Museum to reflect on South Africa’s journey from division to unity. When returning home, their boys left with many memories and an invigorated sense of purpose; having seen their arduous training regime pay dividends with opportunities to compete nationally and even internationally!

Community support is key

Brisbane Boys’ College is a co-ed, day and boarding school for boys from Prep to Year 12, boasting an excellent reputation across academic, cultural, service, spiritual and sporting aspects of student education. BBC has established itself with many GPS Premiership titles in tennis, basketball and volleyball along with championship wins for Australian Rules Football, Cross Country running and Robotics competition.

Building an exceptional school requires the commitment and collaboration of an entire community. When boys arrive on campus they immediately realize that this place is more than just school – they know they have family here and Miskin Oval serves as their back yard!

Boarding has long been an integral component of BBC life since 1909, offering boys who live away from their families a supportive community that includes Rudd House (boarding), Campbell House, Flynn House, Hamilton House and McKenzie House – and each has its own rich tradition.

The future is bright

As the boys of BBC mark their academic year with pride and optimism, they look ahead with hope and admiration to an exciting future. Their success stems from years of dedication in an environment which promotes teamwork, respect, and determination; supported by community involvement.

As the College prepares to host its inaugural Independent Schools Rugby Festival this Saturday, which kicks off with its 1st XV taking on Hilton College – who had an outstanding season last year and retained many starters – it presents new challenges ahead.

At this festival, St Charles College from South Africa stands out with their crowd-pleasing offloading game and could give us an indication of where both sides stand ahead of next year’s GPS competition. Other CBC fixtures include games against St Paul’s School from KwaZulu-Natal as well as hosts St Andrew’s College from Bloemfontein.
