On Friday, a rally was held to show support for United Senior Center of Sunset Park, which faces an unexpected rent increase that may require it to relocate or close down.

New York City’s EMS lieutenant left behind.

EMS workers face long shifts of high-stress jobs treating victims of car crashes, shootings and medical emergencies while facing financial strain – they’re “struggling to make ends meet”, says Danielle Gustafson of the EMS FDNY Help Fund.

Gustafson Charities’ charity provides financial aid for surviving family members of fallen EMS and fire department workers who died while on duty; however, this may not meet demand. Recently they have been receiving calls from those needing help with bills, repairs after flooding incidents or finding housing assistance.

President of the EMS Officer’s Union states that New York’s emergency medical services recruitment, retention and staffing issues are killing people. One such example is 42-year-old Nelson Seto who died of cardiac arrest at his Brooklyn home after years of hard work in emergency services. Friends said first responders should have been there sooner to assist – CBS New York investigates what should happen when calling 911.

Pastor Trish Perry is committed to ending addiction and homelessness in her community, working tirelessly to inspire individuals and organizations to bring positive changes. On Friday mornings volunteers scrub five shower stalls, prepare food, laundry services, pack toiletry bags – regularly expected from Jason who lives in his tent with his red-nosed pit bull pup.

New Yorkers are trying to skirt tolls.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is losing an estimated annual $50 million due to drivers who obscure their license plates to avoid automated camera tickets. As a result, they have joined with other entities and formed a task force dedicated to identifying and eliminating “ghost cars” from roads.

The Metropolitan Transit Agency has implemented tightened rules on how drivers use cashless tolling on its bridges and tunnels, while the state Department of Motor Vehicles now has the ability to suspend registration of motorists who commit three or more toll evasion violations within five years.

President Trump remains vigilant in his threat to end New York’s congestion pricing program, even with all efforts undertaken by Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Kathy Hochul. Transportation secretary Sean Duffy wrote in a letter addressed to Governor Kathy Hochul that commuter costs and revenue used for mass transit improvements could justify revoking federal approval of this initiative. If that were to occur, New York could lose out on extra funds that provide $1 billion annually for critical subway and bus repairs.

A New York Yankees player died.

Miller Gardner, former Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son, died suddenly while traveling on family vacation and was later reported by the Yankees as deceased on Sunday without offering further details about what had caused his demise.

There was no indication where or why their family vacationed, nor the cause of illness; they were “devastated” at what happened and expressed shock over it all.

Gardner made 14 seasons in Major League Baseball, including being part of the 2009 World Series champion Yankees and retiring after 2021 season.
