Brisbane Roar have joined forces with Football Queensland to host a family-friendly event at Meakin Park on Saturday 2 September. This family-oriented celebration will include food trucks and coffee van, an inflatable field for juniors to use as well as the Brisbane Roar Active Program which helps develop Queensland’s young talent.

The match will serve as another fundraiser for former Brisbane Roar player Izaack Powell, currently receiving treatment for leukaemia on the Sunshine Coast and has been fighting it since 2011. Over $200,000 has already been raised through fundraisers organized by the club; half-time entertainment will also include multi-platinum singer Tresor.

Pre-season training

Brisbane Roar competes in the Australian A-League with two senior men’s teams and one women’s side. Men play their summer training matches at Coorparoo summer training venue while female teams travel throughout Brisbane for matches. Furthermore, Roar are founding members of National Premier League Queensland.

Pre-season training should begin with group running and physical conditioning circuits of low intensity to allow players to build up an initial base level of fitness before intensifying training sessions.

There was an alarming spike in injuries during the 2001 pre-season period compared to 2002 and 2003 pre-seasons, predominantly consisting of muscular strains and joint sprains due to overtraining and insufficient rest between sessions. To minimise injury risk in subsequent pre-seasons, training loads were decreased through reduced duration and intensity sessions.
